Evening Rain
It is still much quieter in growing zone 4a than it is in 4b.
The soft maples are pushing ahead, but they have been reluctant to fully commit.
This will all change soon.
And though the water table remains low,
it has been partially replenished.
As low as it is, water is abundant here.
For that, I am very thankful.
With water comes plants and animals.
The water teems with life from large to small.
The low water level allows us to see more of what is going on.
We sheltered from the rain under the balsam firs.
Waterways benefit from shaded shores.
Shelter is welcome.
With shelter in mind, it was time to listen to the rain from inside the house.
It is one of my favourite sounds.
I certainly hope it continues on.
We continue to wait for the Blackflies.
They're out, but not in strong numbers.
I am watching for them,
as Blackflies are much like the canary in a coal mine.
